Using AI to identify false content: A Key Topic at the 2024 Global Summit on Disinformation

The fourth edition of this event will be held online, free of charge, and bilingual on September 18-19, 2024.

Given the challenges AI presents to the media, reliable information, and consumers, the Global Summit on Disinformation will feature conferences, panel discussions, panels, and showcases of tools and successful strategies to address the impact of disinformation in the following four thematic areas:

Strengthening democracy against disinformation
Media strategies to combat misleading narratives.
Innovation and AI against Disinformation
Education and media literacy in the deepfakes era

The phenomenon of disinformation has evolved over the years, especially with the advent of the Internet, then social networks, and now the emergence of generative AI. This arrival has brought significant changes and challenges to journalism and other professions, increasing the complexity of separating truth from falsehood. An event like the Global Summit on Disinformation is a critical contribution to ensuring that artificial intelligence becomes an ally, not an obstacle, in the fight against disinformation.

“AI tools are important in the fight against disinformation: they offer fast, scalable and consistent solutions to combat false information”, said Carlos Lauría, journalist and executive director of the Inter-American Press Association (SIP), a member of the Global Summit on Disinformation team.

Co-organized by the Inter-American Press Association, the Foundation for Journalism (Bolivia), and Proyecto Desconfío (Argentina), and with more than 2,200 annual registrants from 50 countries, the fourth edition of the Global Summit on Disinformation is a major online, free and bilingual event for all those who want to learn, develop or contribute their actions to fight falsehoods, facilitate access to reliable information, promote digital literacy and strengthen democracies.
