The Global Summit on Disinformation announces its fourth edition: September 18 and 19

On September 18 and 19, 2024, the fourth edition of the Global Summit on Disinformation will take place. Co-organized by the Inter American Press Association, the Fundación para el Periodismo (Bolivia), and Proyecto Desconfío (Argentina), this event will bring together journalists, researchers, academics, fact-checkers, media and government representatives, civil society organizations, teachers, and students for the fourth consecutive year, making it a must-attend event in the global fight against disinformation.

Given the challenges that AI poses to the media and reliable information, the 2024 edition of the Summit will feature conferences, panels, roundtables, and showcases of tools and successful strategies to counter the impact of disinformation around four thematic topics:

Strengthening democracy against disinformation

Media strategies against disinformation narratives.

Innovation and AI against Disinformation

Education and media literacy in the deepfakes era

“Disinformation is connected to the quest for power. Spaces like the one we are creating at the Summit are very important to confront increasingly sophisticated disinformation schemes. The media can and should prepare to create specialized disinformation teams and implement quality standards to review their routines. We are very pleased to continue this initiative for the fourth year in a row,” said Adrián Pino, member of the Executive Committee of the Global Summit on Disinformation and Director of Proyecto Desconfío.

With more than 2200 annual registrants from 50 countries, the fourth edition of the Global Summit on Disinformation is an important event for all those who want to learn, develop, or contribute with their actions to combat falsehoods, facilitate access to reliable information, promote digital literacy, and strengthen democracies.
