The Global Disinformation Summit was presented at the SIP Connect 2024 annual meeting

Soledad Arréguez and Adrián Pino, members of Proyecto Desconfío and organizers formally announced the Summit.

On the second day of the annual meeting SIP Connect 2024 on the digital transformation of the media, organized by the Inter American Press Association and held in Miami, United States, the Global Summit on Disinformation held its formal presentation, discussion, and exchange of experiences in the challenging context of the fight against disinformation.

During the presentation, Soledad Arréguez, Education Coordinator, and Adrián Pino, journalist and director of Proyecto Desconfío, presented the four axes of the next edition: “Strengthening democracy in the face of disinformation”, “Media strategies in the face of disinformation narratives”, “Innovation and AI in the face of disinformation”, and “Education and AMI (Media and Information Literacy) in times of deepfakes”.

They also shared their impressions with the audience and spoke about the importance of a space like the Summit in an environment where truth is an increasingly complex value to discern.

“The Summit has become a space to connect initiatives and actors fighting disinformation. Collaboration is essential to combat this phenomenon, which knows no borders or nationalities. And each edition of the Summit clearly shows the need to broaden these alliances and strengthen the bonds for joint work between media, technology experts, educators, and other relevant actors.” Pino said.

Soledad Arréguez said that education, especially media and information literacy, is key to empowering citizens: “People need to develop the skills to access reliable information, verify content, and compare sources. Only an informed citizenry can actively participate in the life of its community. “

The annual SIP Connect 2024 meeting brings together leaders of organizations, platforms, media, innovators, and publishers from all over the Americas to reflect on the digital transformation that media is going through today, with special emphasis on the impact of artificial intelligence.
